Candace Fontaine:  This petite, auburn haired, hazel-eyed teenager with a trademark smirk asserts herself in the story rather quickly.  Candace and Maggie meet soon after Maggie moves to Arkansas.  Both are Juniors at Eureka Springs High School and become friends and confidants.  Candace was born in Arkansas to lawyer parents, although her mother runs a boutique store in downtown Eureka specializing in spirituality, homeopathic healing, and everything involving mysticism.  Maggie discovers that Candace is incredibly intelligent, witty, hyper-observant, and has an insatiable curiosity.  A thinker and problem solver by nature, with skills well beyond her years, Candace has a tenacious personality and rarely lets anything go—and she never seems to miss those things that others fail to notice.  It’s a trait that could lead to trouble as she begins to spend more time on the Weald, as the last thing the secretive Fae want is a human with a predilection for asking questions and solving puzzles. Uncommonly loyal to her friends, Candace becomes a central figure in Maggie’s life.
